Moto2 runner up, Julian Simon tests Triumph's Moto2 engine

A big step in Triumph's Moto2 2019 season race engine development journey has come to pass. The 2009 125cc World Champion, Moto2 runner up and an experienced Moto2 test rider, Julian Simon put the British motorcycle manufacturer's race engine through its paces at the Ciudad del Motor de Aragon, Alcaniz, Spain.  

Mid way through the engine development program, the successful track shake down has provided important data to the performance and durability evaluation program. Feedback has indicated positive results and point toward an imminent handover of the first batch of Moto2 race engines in June 2018.  

With regards to power, torque and durability, the company has stated the engine has surpassed expectations  in the track session which brought excellent results. It was further mentioned that the bike has delivered good, consistent and competitive lap times.

Based on the new 2017 765cc Triumph Street Triple, the British manufacturer will provided these race spec engines to Dorna - the commercial rights holder of MotoGP. The engine delivers 123PS at 11,700rpm and 77Nm of torque at 10,800rpm. The new engine features more than 80 new parts compared to the previous generation one with an increase to the bore and stroke. The engine has also been given a new crank, new pistons, new connecting rods and balancer shaft, Nikasil plated aluminum barrels and a revised gearbox.
